Saucha means "purity". It is directly translated as "cleanliness of body, heart, mind and environment." Carolyn Nicholson Berger, Certified Yoga Instructor and Massage Therapist, is committed to the ideal behind the word. She is currently offering classes in Vinyasa Flow Yoga at three locations in Calaveras County. Her personalized attention is a key element in providng her yoga students with the tools necessary to achieve their individual goals. Carolyn practices several disciplines of yoga and has studied Iyengar with Leslie Howard. Her instructional methods can be adapted for students of any skill level. Vinyasa Flow Yoga - Flow yoga stems from Ashtanga Yoga, which means "eight-limbed". "Limbs" include moral codes, physical exercises, breathing techniques and meditation. Vinyasa is a term that covers a broad range of yoga styles. The word Vinyasa means "breath-synchronized movement." Your teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. This technique is also called Vinyasa Flow, or just Flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance. This series of flowing postures is linked by the breath to detoxify, stretch and strengthen the body and build life force energy. Iyengar Yoga, a form of Hatha Yoga created by B. K. S. Iyengar, is a form of yoga known for its use of props, such as belts and blocks, as aids in performing asanas (postures). It is firmly based on the traditional eight limbs of yoga as expounded by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras, emphasizing the development of strength, stamina, flexibility and balance, as well as concentration and meditation .
